Conservation Forestry

Working to restore forest landscapes is at the core of what we do. We understand the many values that forests provide in the western US, including drinking water protection, habitat, and wildfire resiliency. We also understand the importance of markets – both for traditional forest products and carbon credits – to help you achieve your goals on the landscape. Below are two great examples of my recent work to restore forests and enhance the values that they provide.

Forest Stewardship Plan, Button Rock Preserve

Button Rock Preserve is a 3,000-acre protected landscape that is owned and managed by the City of Longmont to protect their drinking water supply. On behalf of the City, Keith wrote an extensive data-driven plan for the Preserve that includes treatment prescriptions for seventeen management units, non-forest management goals, and an initial collaborative plan to treat the larger North St. Vrain Creek watershed that surrounds the preserve.

Wildfire Mitigation Planning

The Boulder Watershed Collective is a community-driven NGO working with landowners in central Boulder County to design and implement projects that restore the natural stand structure of their forests while increasing wildfire resiliency. Bluestem is providing technical support including spatial analysis (GIS), project development, and successful grant writing in a manner that substantially increases the Coalition’s capacity in a budget-friendly way.
